Xan’s 1st birthday – The big day

Our girl turned one almost two weeks ago and I have been recuperating from the after-party hangover ever since 🙂

The party turned out well and went as smoothly as planned. It was small, intimate yet fun. Our friends and their families comprising a total of nine adults, two children and three babies came. Xan didn’t really know what the whole fuss was all about but enjoyed the food nonetheless. As always (almost every month), she had a bruise on her forehead that day from yet another one of her misadventures. However, this time, she also spotted a ‘pimple’ on her face, signifying a grown-up girl 😉

It took me more than a month to transform my plan into a reality. I had a whale of a time preparing for this party! The satisfaction derived from seeing everything coming together, celebrating Xan’s milestone in a special way and guests enjoying themselves was simply fulfilling. For a start, I got the pretty but very affordable party printables from Wishing Weekend. Do check them out if you’re planning a party. The owner, Eza, is very friendly, generous and charges reasonably. She printed and cut the printables for me; all I needed to do was to install them only. Easy peasy! The cute strawberry hairclips (see below) were also sourced from Malaysia; they were made by Angeliq Bowtiful, who was a joy to work with too! As for Xan’s custom-made strawberry tutu outfit, I got it at a really good price from Designest by Esra&Sirel in Dubai. Most of the decorative items were sourced from the heaven-sent Daiso. Cheap and nice, my kind of shop! 😀

Here’s sharing some highlights of the party:

You’re sure good in this, great planning with everything so perfect! Like especially the watermelon cake, did you do it yourself? don’t think ever come across such cake here…

    1. Thanks Mei Chen! It was all great fun!

I came across the watermelon cake idea online and liked that it’s not the usual sweet birthday cake. Most people enjoy watermelon plus it doesn’t cost much to make one. So I got a friend to make it for me and it was completed in less than 30 mins at our place on that day itself 😀 You can check out the step by step recipe here: http://m.instructables.com/id/watermelon-cake/
